Xiaomi has carved out a place for itself in the market by offering phones with almost unbeatable value for money, in almost all price ranges. But it is not always easy to sort through the many references of the Chinese . We help you see more clearly in our guide to the best Xiaomi smartphones of 2020
Xiaomi Mi 10
Looking at the technical data sheet, this high-performance 5G-compatible smartphone with a magnificent 90 Hz screen and one of the most exciting photo sensors that we have seen in recent years does not appear to be so expensive. You just have to compare it head-on with the Huawei P40 (sold at the same price) to be convinced: the Mi 10 is better on all points (Google as a bonus).
Now, perhaps indeed Xiaomi should have gone more gradually on its move upmarket: to keep a classic Mi 10 like OnePlus since last year. A daring strategy, but which is fortunately supported by a smartphone of excellent quality.
Messy design and dazzling display
Do not take four roads, the design of the Xiaomi Mi 10 is very neat. The screen borders on the front are minimal, the front sensor is discreetly integrated in the upper left corner. The edges of the screen are curved and the alignment of the photo modules on the back is more aesthetic than the large square blocks of some competitors. On the other hand, the photo module pops out, which prevents the phone from laying completely flat, and the “mirror-effect” glass back marks a lot of fingerprints.
The Mi 10’s 6.67-inch AMOLED screen puts Xiaomi in the big leagues. The colorimetry is very well adjusted, the maximum brightness is very important and the contrasts are obviously at the top thanks to the AMOLED technology. With its 2340 x 1080 pixel definition, the Mi Note 10 offers a display fineness of 386 ppi. This is not the most impressive in the field, but the display finesse remains excellent. To top it off, the screen is 90 Hz and benefits from HDR10 + compatibility.
Raw power and neat interface
With a Snapdragon 865 processor supported by 8 GB of RAM, the Xiaomi Mi 10 is positioned among the most powerful smartphones on the market. Unsurprisingly, he is able to carry out all the tasks that you submit to him with great responsiveness. The same goes for games that run “full” thanks to the Adreno 650 GPU.
It’s Android 10 with the MIUI 11 interface running on the smartphone. The overlay of the Chinese manufacturer is very complete, with a full dark mode, navigation by gestures and many customization options, except one, and not least: the application drawer. Concretely, this means that you will be forced to place all your applications on different desktops, just like iOS. Fortunately, there are a number of app launchers available on Android. What easily gets around the problem. The Mi 10 carried four photo sensors: a main sensor of 108 megapixels, an ultra wide-angle of 13 megapixels, a macro of 2 megapixels and one for the management of the depth of 2 megapixels. It is of course on the main sensor which is extremely convincing. By day, the pictures are of excellent quality and the smartphone manages the high dynamic pages well. At night, it does well, but remains a cut below the best on the market.
Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro
Unique style and top OLED display
Yes, we can still stand out by offering a design that is really different from what the competition offers. The glass back displays unique color gradients that change with the ambient light. The colored circle surrounding the first of the three photo sensors is also a small detail that makes the difference. Admittedly, the Mi 9T Pro tends to mark fingerprints a little too much, but nothing to sulk our pleasure.
The 6.4-inch screen takes up 86% of the phone’s surface. The absence of a notch really gives the impression of holding only a screen in your hand. The front sensor is integrated in the form of a pop-up camera that comes out of the top edge. The OLED screen is beautiful with excellent colorimetry, infinite blacks and high maximum brightness. It’s flawless.
Ultra efficient, with an interface reminiscent of iOS
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 processor has nothing more to prove when it comes to performance. Shoulder by 6 GB of RAM, it swallows up any game and application with amazing ease. The GPU Adreno 640 takes care of the graphics, brilliantly. Even the most power-hungry 3D games on the Play Store will run in excellent condition, without overheating the phone.
This is the MIUI interface that runs on the Mi 9T Pro. Like all modern interfaces, it offers features that complement those of Android. Because yes, contrary to what it’s design suggests, we are indeed on Android. However, MIUI does not hide its strong inspiration from iOS. A mix of genres which is not prohibitive, but which may not please everyone.
Xiaomi Mi Note 10
At 6.47 inches diagonally, the Mi Note 10 is a big phone. It looks like much more expensive smartphones, but a few details in the finishes remind us that we are indeed in the presence of a mid-range mobile. However, the occupancy rate of the slab is very high, and its glass back is of excellent quality. Too bad that one of the photo sensors on the back is too easily found in the hand and so easily takes fingerprints.
Yes the screen is large, but also of excellent quality! AMOLED technology can display deep blacks and very high contrast. Whites tend to pull a bit too much towards blue tones, but nothing that cannot be adjusted in the settings. Finally, the Full HD + definition of 2340 x 1080 pixels offers a comfortable resolution of 398 ppi on the screen of the Mi Note 10
Big sensor, big autonomy
Cameras with more and more megapixels are of course marketing arguments. But in the case of the Mi Note 10, the main 108-megapixel sensor, this also translates into the quality of the photos captured. Even the night shots are well made, which is very rare on a smartphone in this price range. Our only reservation on the photo part comes from the presence of two telephoto lenses on the 5 sensors present.
The advantage of large smartphones is that they can integrate batteries that are just as large. Xiaomi has managed to integrate a huge 5,270 mAh battery into its Mi Note 10. Enough to last for two big days despite its extremely bright giant screen. We also appreciate its 30W charger which allows you to recover up to 50% of the battery in just 30 minute
